What Are Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are super-thin shells of porcelain which are shaped to look like the front of a tooth. They are colored appropriately to match surrounding teeth and are permanently bonded to the front of teeth in the smile area. Porcelain veneers are custom made for each individual patient and used to improve a patient’s appearance. They are a permanent option which resists stains and mimic the appearance of natural teeth.
Why Use Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are a versatile option which can be used to correct various issues. People often choose veneers to cover stubborn stains which may not respond to whitening treatments. They can also be used to correct spacing issues, such as gaps between teeth. Small chips and cracks in front teeth can also be covered with porcelain veneers to give a patient an aesthetically beautiful smile. Discolored, misaligned or uneven teeth are also routinely covered with veneers.
The Process of Applying Veneers
Getting dental veneers typically requires two to three trips to the dentist because of the nature of the treatment. The first trip is usually consists of a consultation and x-rays, but sometimes the dentist will make minor modifications to the teeth requiring treatment and also take an impression of your teeth during this visit. The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory to fabricate the dental veneers. At a subsequent visit, your tooth’s surface will be prepared for the porcelain veneers to be permanently bonded.
