Dental Emergency

Don’t Let A Dental Emergency Get You Down

Summer is now in full swing. That means your kids, and you, are likely spending a lot of time enjoying the warm weather. In this season of swimming, baseball, bike rides, and more, you could be at risk of injury. Not only can you sustain scrapes and broken bones, but you also risk chipped and knocked-out teeth. You should have a plan in place for emergencies, which includes knowing how to keep your smile safe until you can visit our team at Bliss Dental in Dallas, TX. Today, our team is here to talk about what to do in case of a smile emergency.

Be Aware Of Common Emergencies

All situations are unique, but there are a few dental injuries that may be more common than others. Severe toothaches, chips and cracks, or knocked-out teeth are some of the most common injuries you may be at risk of. These injuries can occur due to untreated dental issues or accidents, such as those that happen while playing contact sports or in car accidents. If your kids play contact sports like soccer or football, you may want to consider getting them a mouthguard to protect them. Dental emergencies don’t just affect children, either. Make sure you are keeping your pearly whites safe, too, parents.

What To Do If You Injure A Tooth

An injury to your tooth can be alarming and painful. In the event of this occurring, please ensure you are aware of the steps to take to remain comfortable until you can visit your dentist. First, try to avoid touching the area. You can bite down on gauze or a tea bag to reduce bleeding and stay comfortable. Then, call your dentist right away. We will do our best to get you in as soon as possible and repair the area. In situations like these, many drugstores carry emergency kits that can save your tooth. It’s never a bad idea to carry one with you.

Don’t Put Off Treatment For Knocked-Out Teeth

Knocking out a tooth is a common problem we see in our office. If this has happened to you or your child, we are here to help. Try to keep the tooth with you if you are able to do so. You may be able to place it back in its socket or carry it in a clean Ziploc baggy if you are able to do so. To reduce swelling and keep bleeding to a minimum, bite down on gauze and apply a cold compress to the area. When you come in for your urgent visit with us, we will see what treatments are available to help you.
